Den 1 Meeting October 6, 2008

Hi Den 1 Webelos!

I hope you all had a great time at the Fryeburg Fair (if you went) and I hope you used the time well to do some homework for Scouts, like learning signals for one sport (see the handout for Sportsman or page 456 in Web book) and maybe practiced some of the physical skills we learned last time (pushups, situps, 50-yard dash, long jump) so we can write down our measurements and see if we’ve improved.

I’d like to see how many of you would like to go the Corn Maze at Sherman’s Farm Stand October 18th. We will not have a den meeting October 13th because of the holiday, so I’d like to do something that week.

See you all then,

Matt

Pack 150 Trash Pickup in Conway Saturday the 27th

Leave No TraceMary wanted to get the word out that this Saturday 27th October 19th is the trash pick up from 9-11 2-4. We will meet at the White Mt. Chapel (the white one on the little hill) heading out of Conway towards Center Conway.

Of course the weather now sounds like a wash out so if it is pouring we will try for Sunday from 2-4. If it is still pouring on Sunday we will reschedule sometime in October!

If the Scouts could wear gloves that would be great.

Mary Hill will have the trash bags.

This year’s sale will be better than ever! We have a great product line and terrific prizes and incentives! Our unit’s goal is to beat last year’s sale of $11,129.00. Each Scout needs to contribute their fair share. With approximately 50 Scouts a minimum sale of $100.00 each will just bring us just shy of the halfway mark and earn you a Portland Pirates ticket. So, let’s get out there and go for $200.00 each!

Remember to read all the info on your order sheets. Also, go to www.trailsend.com for more details and even play some games. Yes, we are doing online sales at Orderpopcorn.com but you need to get your key code from you den leader first.

Ask your den leaders about the Scout Pix photo contest or see the info on the above website.

If you take an order and do not have popcorn to give them at that time, those orders will not be filled until the week of November 15th.

Den 1 Meeting is Mondays at 6:30 pm in Pine Tree School Cafeteria

Hello Again Everyone!

I hope everyone had a great summer vacation and is ready to get back to school … and Cub Scouts!

We will be having a den meeting on Monday, September 15th (this Monday), at 6:30 in the Pine Tree cafeteria. We decided at the last pack meeting on Wednesday that Mondays were better for everybody. If you have a problem with this please let me know, and we’ll see what we can do at the next den meeting.

We have a very big den this year (10 kids), in fact it’s the biggest in the pack. This means I’ll need your help to make sure that the boys are well supervised, especially since I learned after the pack meeting that our youngest son’s den meeting is also on Monday night. This means my wife, who normally helps me with the meetings, will not be at our den meeting.

I will most likely be asking parents and scouts to help with some of the activities this year. Not only is this good training for the boys for Boy Scouts, in some cases it fulfills Webelos requirements, and also helps me out. I’ll be sure to give you plenty of guidance and helps on what you might plan for activities.

I hope to see you all there. We’re planning a great year ahead!

Matt

Our first pack meeting, which has been on the Pack’s website calendar for some time, is on September 10th at 6:30 pm in the Pine Tree School cafeteria. Yes, that’s right, it’s on Wednesday this month, but most months it is on Thursday.

Bring lots of enthusiasm as we kick off this important orientation meeting, and invite new scouts into our pack as well!

See you then!

August 18th 2008 Committee Meeting

The meeting is scheduled for Monday night now at 6 pm at the Conway Public Library. I will have an agenda for the meeting and a “draft” calendar for the year so we can discuss events, we will have a fall roundup in Sept, I can check with Pine Tree to see which Thursday is available—hopefully we can add 2 new tiger dens.

One of my goals this year is to work on improving our pack meetings—making them more “purposeful” but also with a fun element—I’m hoping that we can change our format so its not so much announcements and more about having the whole pack getting to know each other—yes this might mean more singing (God help me).

At each pack meeting I would like to have a quick sharing time from each den—doesn’t have to be a huge production but having the boys show or share what they have worked on during the previous month. All of you are doing great things—camping, projects and trips etc. and nobody gets to hear about it. This will also let the younger boys see some of the things they will be doing in the future.

I also have ordered for all the leaders the program helps that has the monthly themes and ideas for each den so don’t buy one.

I have several copies of the Sports and Academic Belt Loop book and the How To Book. If you think there is anything else—materials or books that you need for your year just let me know so we can get it for you.

This year at each committee meeting you can turn in your receipts or request money for something you might need to buy—I know many of you have been spending your own money on things and saying well its just $5 or $10 but it adds up so PLEASE bring in your receipts so we can reimburse you—or you can also request a check before if you know you are going to need something for that month.

Thanks, Mary
