Cub Scout Pack 150

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to remind all Den 1 Parents and Scouts (with plenty of time to spare) of the meeting Thursday night. Same time, same place. It’s going to follow our theme for the month, Cub Scout Car Show, and we’ll prepare for the Pinewood Derby this coming Saturday!

We will be building and designing boxes to store and display Pinewood Derby cars in, playing some games, and giving some reports. That’s right - I assigned homework last week! With your help, the boys should do achievement 13d in the Bear handbook, page 115 - pretend you are shopping for a car for your family. I’d like them to bring a short report on which car you picked and why, no more than one page. They can print out a picture of it (or draw it) if they want. Achievement 13 is a fairly easy one to do, so I would recommend you work on the rest of the requirements for it at home.

Another good Achievement for this month is #21 - build a model. If they build a Pinewood Derby car, come to the meeting tonight and build a box for it, and do requirement g they’ll get another achievement done!

Speaking of model building, if the boys want to bring in their Pinewood Derby cars, I’ll try to get an electronic scale from work to weigh them, and we can check the length, width, etc. to see if it fits the rules. Plus the kids can talk about their cars if they want. They may not get much of a chance to see them and talk about them at the Derby - it can get pretty hectic.

Pinewood Derby

When: Saturday January 26th

Where: Pine Tree School Gym

Set up time is 7:00 a.m.

Time: Check in time starts at 9:00 a.m., race time is 10:00 sharp!

Dues are due prior to the race. No dues - no race. $22.00 with Boy’s Life, $10.00, $10.00 without Boy’s Life

There will be an intermission at the half way point. We will have a stand set up for refreshments.

We need homemade snacks (cookies, brownies…) to sell at the refreshment stand. Please sign up.

Klondike Derby

When: Saturday, February 2nd

Where: North Conway Country Club

What: a day of outdoor activities for Cub Scouts and an opportunity to see Boy Scouts in action.

More information to follow. We are looking for volunteers who would like to run a station for the Cub Scouts (game, craft, …?)

Blue and Gold Dinner

When: Thursday February 28th 5:30 p.m.

Where: At the new Kennett High School cafeteria

What to bring:

Portland Pirates Game

When: March 2nd

Where: Portland Civic Center

Who: Scouts that sold $100 or more of popcorn receive free ticket. Parents and siblings are invited. Tickets are $10.00.

You should have paid for tickets at the pack meeting so we can order the tickets and have them prior to the game.

Just a quick note to let all den leaders and Cub Scout Parents know that there is a committee meeting tonight at 6:00 at the Conway Public Library. All are invited to attend.
