Cub Scout Pack 150

Happy New Years (Eve) to all Cub Scouts and Parents in Pack 150!

This year should be a good one, packed with some fun things coming up, not the least of which is our annual Pinewood Derby on January 26th.

To den 1 (Bear) Scouts and parents, we’ll be starting anew with our weekly den meeting schedules (weather permitting). We’ll have our first den meeting of the year this Thursday, January 3rd at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Tree School.

One of the things we’ll be doing is handing out and talking about Pinewood Derby cars! The theme for this month, conveniently, is Cub Scout Car Show. I want to encourage any of you who have participated in the Derby before to bring in your old cars so we can have a bit of show-and-tell.

If you plan on participating in the Pinewood Derby, please bring a check with your yearly dues to the meeting. You cannot race if you haven’t paid your dues! Checks are better than cash so we know exactly who has paid and there’s no confusion. Checks can be made out to Cub Scout Pack 150. Dues are $22.00 yearly if you want Boy’s Life, $10 yearly if you don’t.

The Pinewood Derby should be a fun start to the year. I hope to see you all there!

Yes, for those who are wondering, there will be a meeting for Den 1 (Bears) this evening. It looks like the snow is supposed to start around 5:00, but it’s only supposed to be 1-2 inches. Be good New Englanders, now, and come to the meeting, 6:30 p.m. at Pine Tree. It’s our only meeting this month.

OK. Strike that. Events are forcing me to cancel the meeting, much though I don’t want to. My youngest son Evan has a stomach bug and with the snow coming, and people having to travel some distance to get here, I can’t in good conscience hold the meeting. I’ll have to figure out another way to get Pinewood Derby cars to all of you so you have a chance to work on them before the January Pinewood Derby.

January

Pack Meeting

Theme is Cub Scout Car Show. Thursday, January 17th, at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Tree School.

Pinewood Derby

Saturday, January 26th at Pine Tree School. Check-in at 9:00 a.m. Anyone who wants to help setup can come at 7:00 a.m. The race starts at 10:00 a.m. There will be a hot dog and refreshment stand.

If you have not paid your dues, you will not race.

We would like to have dues paid before the January 8th committee meeting. Checks would be better, since we can tell who it came from.

February

Blue and Gold Dinner

Carri Descoteaux is in charge. It will be held at the new Kennett High School, February 28th at 5:30 p.m. We will have Webelos II Arrow of Light and Crossover ceremony, and any other awards. Larry needs information from den leaders so that we can purchase awards 2 weeks prior to dinner. Most dens need to bring an entree, since we have such a big pack now.

Pack’s Money

Total popcorn sales were $10,979, of which $6,806.98 went to the Council, netting the pack $4,172.02. The pack is in very good shape financially. Larry recommended we purchase a new laptop computer and small printer, since the one we have is very old, slow, and seems to be dying. It has all the software the Cubmaster needs to manage the pack, so it can go to the next Cubmaster to use.

Dues: Start collecting dues for the coming year so we can have them all in by the Pinewood Derby. Dues for the year with Boy’s Life Magazine is $22.00, without the magazine is $10.00.

Klondike Derby

This is an overnight for Boy Scouts and Webelos, Cub Scouts need to host a few activity stations for the Cub Scout part.

Portland Pirates hockey game will be Sunday, March 2nd at 4:05 p.m. Tickets for Scouts who sold $100 or more of popcorn are free. Otherwise tickets are $10 each, and can be paid for at the January 17th pack meeting.
