Popcorn Sales
Who? Every scout should have received, either at the den meeting or in the mail, at least one sheet for selling popcorn.
When? All popcorn orders need to be turned in by the Pack meeting, October 19th. You may sell door-to-door with your Scout, but make sure they wear their uniform and know what to say. Always be polite, and say thank you, even if they do not purchase.
Why? This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Each Scout has an individual account, and the money they earn goes into it to help pay for Scout programs, camping, outings, supplies, Pinewood Derby cars, Raingutter Regatta kits, etc. Also, they have a great opportunity to win some nice prizes. The more you sell, the better the prize! And, the Pack will give each Scout who sells more than $100 Portland Pirates hockey tickets. All those who went last year had a blast! You should make it your goal to sell at least $100.
We Need Committee Members!
We currently do not have very many Committee members, and need more. One thing I did not realize is that the Boy Scouts advise that Den Leaders should not be Committee Members. Planning the Den meetings should be the Den Leaders sole responsibility. A different person should be the Committee Member.
What Does a Committee Member Do?
They meet the first Tuesday of every month, 6:30 p.m., at the Conway Public Library to plan Pack meetings, and other Pack-wide events. The meetings last about 1-1.5 hours, and are a good chance to be involved with Cub Scouts and see what is going on in the pack.
So, please consider giving an hour and a half of your time per month to a good cause. It really makes a difference.
Next Meeting
Who? Wolf Cub Scouts and their Akelas, of course!
What? We will be working on our Raingutter Regatta boats, so bring anything you want to decorate it with, or you may choose to leave it as it is. Bring it in anyway so we can see it and help you with it. We will also be doing other fun activities, and checking your progress toward Bobcat and Requirement 1, in your Wolf books. All those who have done those may move on to other requirements in the book. They do not need to be done in order. Because of the nature of the meeting, Scouts do not need to wear their uniforms.
When/Where? Wednesday, October 11th, at 6:30 at Pine Tree. Do not arrive Thursday night; you will have missed the boat (sorry, bad pun).
Why? Why do you keep asking that? Isn’t it obvious the kids have a blast?! Would you rather they be glued to the television, playing computer games, or worse? Cub Scouting is GOOD for them!
I’ll see you all there. Remember, Wednesday, NOT Thursday this week.
Yours in Scouting,
Matt - Den 1 Leader
