Family Camping at Camp Carpenter

Den 1 of Pack 150 in the Dining HallCub Scouts of all ages and their Akelas enjoyed a fun weekend of camping July 29-30 at Camp Carpenter in Manchester, New Hampshire. We arrived early on Saturday, checked in while the staff (mostly older scouts, some of Eagle rank) gave us a taste of what was to come by singing camp songs.

After the flag ceremony, scouts spent the whole day Saturday in activities like archery, bb guns, the waterfront (very popular, given the heat), the craft center, Pirates cove and paddle boats, canoeing or rowing on the lake, and more. Staying safe is an important aspect of scouting, and the staff made sure that all scouts understood the safety procedures involved in each activity. We all ate our meals in the huge and modern dining hall, which was also a welcome relief from the heat.

Camp Carpenter WaterfrontAfter supper, we were supposed to have our final activities, but just as we were starting them, we had heavy showers, and the activities were canceled. When the rain stopped, we were invited to the dining hall for our “campfire” inside. The camp staff put on a terrific show for us, and we all had a great time.

Sunday morning came too soon, and we were packing up to go home before we knew it. I think most scouts will be looking forward to a week-long camp next year.
